Statuses and forwarding
Your status tells the phone system and your colleagues what you are doing. Each status has its own forwarding rules: where a call goes when you cannot take it.
Statuses
Your company starts you with these statuses:
- Available
- Away
- Do not disturb
- Lunch
- Business trip
Your administrator can add statuses for the company. Exactly one status is current. Change it from the status menu (the Team page has one) or in Settings > Forwarding.
A status also decides how long your phones ring and whether a second call rings while you are on a call. Scheduled or temporary statuses are not available yet.
Forwarding rules
A status holds rules. Each rule covers one kind of caller and one situation:
| Caller | Situation |
|---|---|
| Internal (a colleague) or external (an outside number) | Always, busy, no answer or not registered (your phone is off or out of reach) |
Each rule has a target: a number, an extension, your voicemail or another colleague. The rules of a status apply only while that status is current.
Ring time
The ring time is how long your phones ring before the no answer rule applies. It is part of the status rules shown in Settings > Forwarding.
Call waiting
The status also decides whether a second call rings over a call you are on. See call waiting.
Check before you rely on it
Settings > Forwarding has a preview: pick a caller and a situation, and it shows where that call would go right now. The preview runs the same rules as the phone system, so it is the reliable check.
Forwarding defaults
Your administrator sets defaults for the built-in statuses under Admin > Forwarding defaults.
Calls forwarded to a number
A call forwarded to an outside number leaves the company as you, with your caller ID, when the company's rules allow it. Your administrator decides which trunks carry these calls.
