MonoPhone mobile app

:::info Status The MonoPhone apps (Android, iOS, Windows, macOS) are built from source in the repository. They are not yet published for download. This page describes what the app does so you know what to expect. :::

MonoPhone is the company phone on your mobile or computer. It registers like any other device on your extension, so a call to your extension can ring your desk phone, the browser and the app together.

Getting started

  1. Ask your administrator for the app build, or install the one your company provides.
  2. In the web client, open My devices and create a QR code. Scan it in the app, or open the link on the phone. The code works once and expires after 10 minutes. See Add users, extensions and phones.
  3. Allow notifications and the microphone when the phone asks.

The app keeps its credentials in the phone's secure storage. You can also sign in with your account to get your directory and settings.

Incoming calls when the app sleeps

A sleeping phone cannot hold a connection. When a call arrives, the PBX sends a push notification through the MonoPhone relay. The phone wakes, registers, and the call rings like a normal incoming call. If your status is Do not disturb, no call push is sent. If the push cannot be delivered, the other devices still ring.

Call readiness

If calls do not ring on the phone, open Call readiness from the home screen. A badge shows blocking problems. It checks the facts that decide whether a call rings:

  • notification permission, call channel, full-screen notifications (Android) and microphone permission;
  • battery optimisation, standby bucket, background restrictions, Data Saver and battery saver (Android);
  • the push token, the network, the phone line, and when the last push arrived;
  • what the PBX knows about this device: whether pushes are delivered.

Each problem has a one-sentence fix and a button to the right system setting. Android phones also get steps for their maker (Xiaomi, Huawei and Honor, Oppo, Realme and OnePlus, Vivo, Samsung and stock Android). iPhones get tips for Focus, notifications and Low Power Mode. Send me a test call rings the phone from the PBX to prove the whole path.

During calls

  • Changing network. Moving from Wi-Fi to mobile data keeps the call. The screen says "Switching network, keeping your call" while the call recovers. If the connection cannot be recovered after three attempts, the call ends.
  • Outbound caller ID. If you may present more than one number, the dialer shows "Calling as" and a chooser. A switch hides your number. The PBX refuses a number you do not hold.
  • Park and pick up. The in-call Park button lists the slots. "Parked calls" in the dialer picks up a call from a slot. See Transfer, park and pickup.
  • Transfer. The Transfer button sends the call to another number.
  • Intercom. The desktop app answers intercom calls by itself only if you turned on "Answer intercom calls automatically" in its settings (off by default). The mobile apps do not auto-answer.

Problems

  • No ring when the app is closed. Run Call readiness. Most often notifications, full-screen alerts or battery limits block the wake-up.
  • Code expired or already used. Create a new QR code.
  • Too many devices. Revoke old ones in My devices.
  • Not a MonoPbx server / untrusted certificate. Check the address and the server certificate with your administrator.
