Busy lamps and presence
A busy lamp field (BLF) key shows whether a colleague's extension is idle, ringing or on a call. Your desk phone and your browser panel can both show these lamps, and you can pick up a colleague's ringing call from the key.
What the lamp shows
| Lamp | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Off | The extension is idle. |
| Flashing | The extension is ringing. |
| On | The extension is on a call, or calling out. |
The lamp follows the extension, not the person. If a colleague has two phones, the lamp shows a call on either one.
Set up a BLF key on a desk phone
An administrator adds the key in the desk phone's layout (Admin > Desk phones). Each key points at a colleague's extension number. The phone then subscribes to that extension's state and updates the lamp by itself.
The phone must be registered with MonoPbx. A key on an unregistered phone shows its last known state until the phone registers again.
Pick up a ringing call
While a key flashes, you can pick up the call from the key:
- Press the flashing BLF key.
- The call rings on your phone and you answer it.
Your phone sends the directed-pickup code followed by the key's number. The default code is *20*, so a key on extension 102 dials *20*102. Your administrator can change the code.
Presence
The web client and the apps show whether a colleague can be reached and whether they are on the phone. Presence is built from the device registrations and the calls, so a colleague with no registered device shows as unavailable.
Colleagues can limit who sees their presence in their own settings.
Message lamps
A phone can show a message-waiting lamp when its user has voicemail. The lamp is kept in step with the voicemail mailbox by the presence server.
Troubleshooting
- The lamp never changes. Check that the phone is registered and that the key points at the right extension number. Ask your administrator to check the phone's provisioning.
- Pickup dials but nothing rings. The call may have been answered or ended in the meantime. Check the switchboard for the current state.
